He also got honors at UMass at 16K merit per year, making UMass still more expensive than Binghamton, but less than Pitt, so Pitt is the most expensive. He visited UMass and liked the tour and his department/program but didn’t like it enough to pay the extra (his words, not mine).

Back in 2019 it was not uncommon for high stat in-state kids to get between $10K-25K a year at Pitt. My S19 did. I haven't seen anything like is since. @TheVulcan kid had all the stats but did not get the Pitt merit, neither did the #2 and #3 kids in my S19's HS class. They ended up at Notre Dame and Case with better merit offers than Pitt.

(post-Covid) Pitt still attracts plenty of full-pay international, full-pay OOS, and full-pay in-state students. Schools like William & Mary and UVA offer zero merit (and they tell you up front) to OOS students as well. This is exactly why my in-state S19 chose Pitt.
