It does really decent dmg and is quite useful in PvP, since most people ♥♥♥♥ up their dodge because they expect the longer casting time of Great Combustion. Aside from that there is Firesnake. It pretty common but for a good reason.
PvE pyromancy is definitely doable, especially with a weapon back up. You can focus tons on your attunement as well because fire scaling isn't that great. I mean, if I can get rekt in PvP by pure pyro, you can use it viably in PvE as well. It's great except when it isn't.
