I always thought it was just cut content but after reading more into the lore and the devs (and alt) confirming that Johnny is an unreliable narrator, he might’ve actually never escaped his initial encounter with Adam Smasher and was killed instead. It does make sense, he gets thrown off the balcony and surrounded by Adam and his troops.
