In act 1 after killing the hag you can ressurect the man. That did the trick for me instantly. Missclick of course, was the best paladin before that.

Vengeance makes it so that you almost always slide with someone who has been wronged by another. If you go against that, the oath breaks. It's a much more moral grey. So it does sometimes clash with being good. And if you are ever trying to decive by making a deal with a bad guy, to then betray them later, that can also break your oath.
