As I said I don't use Tradovate, but basic data in CQG data in Ninjatrader is $12 a month, and it provides the main CME instruments, among many others. Either way, you are paying for market data. I suppose similar to the way that Samsung or Apple make phones, but the don't work without a carrier connection, which have separate contracts and fees.While the charting is not perfect, it’s very easy to learn and is good for day to day trade initiation. For clarity, i do all my trade planning and real time market observation in TOS and keep just a single window of Tradovate. Market data is much faster in Tradovate compared to TOS. I use tradestation on my windows (on my mac) which works pretty well for my needs. It's good right out of the box, lots of different commodities and currency futures for reasonable margin. $3-4k will be enough for a couple micro/ commodity contacts. I wouldn't recommend ninjatrader. Really outdated and the whole "lifetime license" is nonsense.

So far so good! Tradovate has been nothing but a fun, exciting, and money-making platform trading futures. As a beginner in trading futures, the fees incurred with Tradovate is cheaper than all the bigger brokers out there. I checked out their site and disclosures and it says there's no insurance in case of bankruptcy or misappropriation on funds deposited.
