I just fixed an XP yesterday that (2) dealerships and $1000 later couldnt fix. THey put a new belt, new ECU, and new plugs and a dyno run and still couldnt fix it.

It seems to me that if the stator was going bad or completely failed, you would have battery charge problems, as the stator (alternator) is what charges and maintains the charge of the battery along with the voltage regulator.
