Doing a 408 conversion and need to know if I need a new crank. The "M" has a shorter stroke. I was told a while back that to use 400 pistons you have to use 400 rods because of the lengths between the 351M and 400 were different. But the same crank could be used as long as you change the pistons and rods. The rods are the same.

Second, there was 1 400 block which had the same bolt pattern as the 351C which is another member of the 335 series. The casting # was D3AE-B so your engine would have the 385 series (429/460) bolt pattern.
