Lately I've had a hard time finding a good scary book to read. I read all of Stephen King (Salem's Lot) and Dean Koontz (Phantoms) books. Peter Straub (Ghost), Dan Simmons (Summer of Night) they're okay but not some of my favorite. Like my favorite book when I was in high school was the road by cormac McCarthy. Grim tale about the nature of humans after everything collapses. Shows some of the extremes we could go to. It’s still on my list of great books. Now I’ve read more one of my favorite books is a classic by Alexandre Dumas, The count of monte Cristo.Easy to understand simple and more action. The excellent balance of action and philosophy/deep stuff just the right amount that the reader can understand . From book 3 onwards it all gets way full of philosophy and things thst just blow your brain trying to understand them. Book 5 and 6 while decent are just wierd. Book 1 to 3 is peak dune imo. Enders Game is absolutely a must read. His character development and the meta story about human greed for power is truly gripping. If you liked Ender's Game, you might like The Circle by Dave Eggers. Ender's Game is a space war dystopia written in 1985, The Circle is a social media dystopia published in 2013. The best ever is Gormenghast by Mervyn Peake, then Book of the New Sun by Wolfe. I discovered Joe Abercrombie last year, blitzed through the First Law trilogy, immediately read the first two books of the new trilogy then realised he wrote three books between them! I haven't read Wisdom of Crowds (if that's the name) but I've just started The Heroes. I can't get enough.
