During the finisher animation you and the target cannot perform any actions and both are immune to damage and CC (except for the finisher damage of course). I was doing finishers with ivara, equinox, and Inaros, but the finisher in the dagger stance didn't seem to work anymore by itself. Also, you do not need the finisher animation to do good damage. If they are stunned/unalerted the vast majority of enemies will fall to a well built melee weapon's quick attack. This is how stealth focus farming is able to work. You run around invisible so they are unaware and AVOID finisher animation so you can pack more kills in a shorter time.
