The RED lever is the water heater by pass, in the up position water will flow to the heater , in the left position water will not flow to the heater. This is the water heater bypass lever.Well I do have one issue on my trailer these bypass valves are a PITA to get to you have to take out the panels in the cargo compartment to even get to them. There's a check valve at the water heater, usually on the hot output connection. If that check valve sticks open, water can flow backward into the tank even when bypassed. : If the water heater is in bypass mode, checking water flow will be misleading. In bypass mode, with an empty water heater, the cold water supply will flow through both the hot and cold lines. If not certain whether in water heater bypass mode, carefully open the temperature / pressure relief valve.

I can hear water going into the water heater and the burner fires to heat the water. To go to by-pass mode turn off the cold and hot and open the middle valve now you are in by-pass mode. If you are winterizing dont forget to drain the hot water heater and dont forget to run pink stuff thru the water pump and the outside shower they will freeze .
